Chairman John Hope Bryant and Operation HOPE would like to honor and recognize the achievements of Bishop T.D. Jakes as a champion for spiritual and personal uplift and trailblazer for community transformation. Bishop Jakes serves as the senior pastor of The Potter’s House, a nondenominational church located in south Dallas, Texas. Under his leadership, the church has grown to a membership of more than 30,000 with campuses in Fort Worth and Frisco, Texas as well as Denver, Colorado. His ministry has touched lives around the world, with humanitarian and community development missions in South Africa and as far as Australia. His leadership and wisdom have led him become a sought after thought leader and prophetic voice to government leaders, lay people, and executives alike. Bishop Jakes has advised three presidents and was a featured speaker at the inauguration of President Obama. He has been recognized by Ebony Magazine as one of the most influential voices in America on their “Power 100 List” and has been invited to bring his valued perspective to major forums, including The Aspen Institute, The Willow Creek Leadership Forum, The SMU Tate Lecture Series, and many others. Although his ministry has global reach and acclaim, he focuses much of his attention on the needs of his immediate community. A strong proponent of financial literacy, empowerment, and inclusion, he has launched a number of measures aimed at helping lift marginalized communities out of adverse conditions and on the road towards purpose, fulfillment and dignity. Earlier this year, Bishop Jakes announced that his foundation was launching a massive fundraising campaign aimed at helping individuals and communities bridge the gap between their needs and their dreams. The fund will help create strategic partnerships with businesses and have a strong emphasis on teaching job skills, technology skills, and financial literacy. He believes that the best way to prepare minority communities for the ever-changing economic landscape is to arm them with the tools and training necessary to remain competitive and innovative. In addition to his ministerial and philanthropic efforts, Bishop Jakes has proven his skills as a businessman and entrepreneur. He is a best-selling author and movie producer for a number of successful films. Through his for-profit arm, T.D. Jakes Enterprises, Bishop Jakes finds new ways to reach the masses with a message of hope and empowerment, while maximizing his opportunity for investment in the communities he serves. The Operation HOPE family salutes Bishop Jakes on his birthday for being a voice of comfort in these most difficult times and we are honored to count him as a friend of HOPE.
