Wendy Goes Full STEAM Ahead with Her New Book

By all accounts, Wendy is not supposed to be an author. She’s especially not supposed to be writing about STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art/agriculture, mathematics). And many people might say she’s unqualified to write anything about faith. But none of that stopped Wendy from pursuing what she believes is a God-inspired project and bringing it to life.

Wendy is the proud author of Christian STEAM, a practical, fun, and hands-on book that introduces children and teens to STEM and connects it to principles and examples in the Christian faith as introduced in the Bible. The kicker is that she is neither a scientist nor a professionally trained theologian. After meeting her small business development coach, MacKenzy Pierre, and Operation HOPE, she is, undoubtedly, an entrepreneur.

A mother of three, Wendy’s boys attended a school with a STEM focus. In that environment, she began to see the importance of young people going into the STEM fields, but many of the youth that she knew weren’t necessarily interested and didn’t understand it. She also began to notice that many of the young people in her church were relatively disengaged and missing out on opportunities to grow in their faith and possible career fields. So, utilizing her connections and her multi-year study of the Bible, she began piecing together a book that could serve as a resource and guide to two communities of people near her heart — the youth and people of faith.

The only problem Wendy had was that all of her life, she struggled with reading and writing — two essential skills needed to publish a book. Nevertheless, she persisted and turned pain into an opportunity to demonstrate that with focus, preparation, and determination, anything is possible. Publishing a book without a strong background in reading and writing was already a Herculean challenge. Becoming a small business owner without any guidance would be another. So, Wendy sought out multiple business development classes around the city and felt that Operation HOPE was the best choice and fit for her needs.

When classes began, Wendy was filled with excitement and anticipation. She came to each class ready and eager to learn. She loved her class so much to the point that she didn’t even miss class while she was on vacation. Her coach, MacKenzy, gave her everything she was looking for and more. He tailored the material of the class to the students and their businesses, which everyone appreciated. As fate would have it, MacKenzy is an avid reader and had the skills and experience to help Wendy overcome her challenges with reading and writing.

Today, Wendy is in conversation with potential clients worldwide who are interested in purchasing her book in bulk to add it to their church and school curriculums. The sky is the limit for Wendy, and we’re excited to see where she’s headed next!
