Rethinking Money: Why a New Financial Playbook Is Emerging for Young Americans
Financial Literacy Month Survey Findings Summary
A new survey of 2,000 Gen Z and Millennial adults — conducted in partnership between Beyond Finance and Operation HOPE — makes one thing clear: the desire for financial success hasn’t gone anywhere. But the path to get there is more broken than ever. 7 in 10 say wealth-building opportunities are becoming less achievable, and for millions of young Americans, long-term planning has been replaced by day-to-day survival.

The American Dream Is Still Alive, Just Harder to Reach
A growing share of Gen Z adults and Millennials feel the financial system is working against them, not for them. Over half say their generation was set up for financial failure (57%), and 68% believe they’ve been financially set back compared to previous generations. Yet the cornerstone of the dream itself hasn’t shifted — homeownership is still the #1 marker of financial success, with nearly half ranking it first. The desire for stability is there. The system to support it isn’t.
