Program to provide no-cost financial empowerment education and coaching
to more than 2,500 city employees and their families will begin in July.

ATLANTA – May 30, 2019 – The City of Memphis and Operation HOPE announced today a partnership to bring HOPE Inside financial coaching and education to city employees and their families. The HOPE Inside The Workplace programming and coaching to be offered as an employee wellness benefit, will include an Operation HOPE Financial Wellbeing Coach providing educational workshops and one-on-one coaching on credit and money management, homeownership, and financial disaster preparedness. Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland announced the new partnership today from the main stage at the HOPE Global Forums | 2019 Annual Meeting in Atlanta.

“So often we stress the importance of leading healthy lifestyles, but leave out the importance of also being financially healthy” Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland said. “With this program, we are offering a well-rounded, balanced approach to our employees to ensure they are financially sound. We’re so excited about this partnership and ready to offer this great benefit to our team.”

HOPE Inside the Workplace is a segment of the HOPE Inside model offered as an employee wellness benefit at corporations and organizations. This is the first HOPE Inside the Workplace installation in Memphis and in the state of Tennessee. Traditionally, HOPE Inside installs Operation HOPE financial wellbeing coaches in bank branches, government offices, grocery stores, and other community locations to provide financial dignity coaching and programming, including credit and money management, homeownership, small business development, and financial disaster preparedness and recovery, all offered at no cost to the client.

“This commitment by Mayor Strickland and the City of Memphis, will contribute to the financial wellness of thousands of municipal employees and their family members,” said John Hope Bryant, founder, chairman, and CEO of Operation HOPE. “Personal financial stress is the most common cause of stress in the workplace—we are grateful for the partnership, and commend City of Memphis leadership for taking this step to empower its employees and by extension its local communities.”

The HOPE Inside network now stands at more than 130 locations across the country, with over 450 new locations scheduled to open within the next 18 months. Nationally, HOPE Inside the Workplace is currently offered to employees of the Atlanta Police Department and Atlanta Public Schools, through sponsorship by SunTrust Bank; UPS, and Delta Air Lines.

HOPE Inside City of Memphis will launch on July 1.

About Operation HOPE
Since 1992, Operation HOPE has been moving America from civil rights to “silver rights” with the mission of making free enterprise and capitalism work for the underserved—disrupting poverty for millions of low- and moderate-income families across the nation. Through our community uplift model, HOPE Inside, which received the 2016 Innovator of the Year recognition by American Banker magazine, Operation HOPE has served more than 4 million individuals and directed more than $3.2 billion in economic activity into disenfranchised communities—turning check cashing customers into banking customers, renters into homeowners, small business dreamers into small business owners, minimum wage workers into living wage consumers, and uncertain disaster victims into financially empowered disaster survivors. Project 5117 is our multi-year four-pronged approach to combating economic inequality that aims to improve financial literacy, increase business role models and business internships for youth in underserved communities, and stabilize the American dream by boosting FICO scores. Operation HOPE recently received its fourth consecutive 4-star charity rating for fiscal management and commitment to transparency and accountability by the prestigious non-profit evaluator, Charity Navigator.
