Achieving the Dream of Homeownership with HOPE: Courtney’s Story

When Courtney G. began working with Operation HOPE in September 2022, she faced a low credit score, three collections, nearly $100,000 in student loans and other debts, and no savings. As a married grad student raising a teenage son, these challenges caused tremendous stress on her family and marriage. With a credit score in the 500s, neither she nor her spouse could qualify for a home loan. But by March 2024, after working with her financial wellbeing coach, Regina Osei, at HOPE Inside Trustmark Bank in Memphis, TN, Courtney had increased her credit score by 114 points, paid off part of her debt, and saved over $3,000.

In Courtney’s Words:

“I had the pleasure of working with Regina Osei. When I started, I knew about credit, but Operation HOPE’s Credit and Money Management Program taught me so much more. My credit score began to rise quickly, but after reaching 590, it stalled. With Operation HOPE’s support, I learned strategies that helped me move forward. Consistency was key, and I’m grateful for the guidance that turned my life around.

Thanks to Operation HOPE, I closed on my home on July 20, 2024, with down payment assistance and zero closing costs. I’ll always remember Regina praying for this dream with me. I want this program to get the world’s attention!

I was able to coach my wife in building her credit, and now, with our first home, we’re on the road to generational wealth. Our 13-year-old is also learning from this process. I’m set to graduate from Jackson State University in 2025 with an M.S. in Public Policy Administration, and we are so grateful. Thank you, Operation HOPE. We love Mrs. Osei!”
