Mr. Deshazor had arrived at one of our Maryland hubs in January, shortly after his release from incarceration, with the desire and perseverance to rebuild. He was starting with $35,000, which he managed with discipline, but he knew he wanted guidance along this path.
He started individual sessions with Financial Wellbeing Coach Juan Fernandez, who advised that he also enroll in the Small Business Development Program to formalize his business structure. During this time, he invested his funds into essential assets to launch his business, including a reliable personal vehicle and necessary computing equipment.
Coach Juan worked with him to use his business credit line effectively, which increased his credit score to an impressive 744. He has also maintained a $1,000 liquid reserve in his account, demonstrating proactive cash management even under economic pressure.
Despite this progress, Mr. Deshazor’s journey was marked by significant hurdles, including loss of employment that resulted in housing instability. Throughout these setbacks, he has remained committed to progress toward financial freedom.
To provide the necessary support for his current housing and employment transition, Coach Juan connected him with a strategic alliance that offers a re-entry program, providing the wrap-around services that, when paired with Operation HOPE’s tools, offer a sustainable path to economic reintegration.
Just last week, Mr. Deshazor achieved a huge step toward housing and economic stability—he is officially employed with a stable job! In the background, he continues building his business, Deshazor Logistics, and will be applying for a business grant soon.
