Every year, Hispanic Heritage Month gives us an opportunity to celebrate the cultures, traditions, stories, and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latino communities across our country.
For me, it is also an opportunity to reflect on something equally powerful: the extraordinary economic impact our communities are making and the opportunities we have to help that impact continue to grow.
Today, the U.S. Latino economy represents an estimated $4.4 trillion in economic output. If U.S. Latinos were measured as an independent economy, we would represent the fourth-largest economy in the world.
Our influence can also be seen in entrepreneurship. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 496,000 Hispanic-owned employer businesses generate more than $730 billion in annual receipts, while millions more Hispanic entrepreneurs operate businesses without employees.
Homeownership tells another important story. Hispanic families continue to represent an increasingly important share of America’s homeowners, with approximately 10.2 million Hispanic homeowner households in the United States.
These are powerful numbers. But behind every statistic is something even more important: a person, a family, a dream, and a story.
It may be an entrepreneur taking a chance on an idea, a family preparing to purchase their first home, someone working to improve their credit, or a parent trying to create greater financial stability and opportunity for the next generation.
At Operation HOPE, those are the stories that inspire our work.
Financial Empowerment Begins with Access
Through Operation HOPE’s Hispanic Initiatives, we are working to ensure that language is never a barrier to financial opportunity.
Our growing community of more than 100 bilingual coaches helps us meet clients where they are — not only linguistically, but culturally. They understand many of the experiences and challenges of the communities they serve, creating the connection and trust that can help turn financial education into financial action.
4,000 CLIENTS | 30,000 ACTIVITIES | 1,000 WORKSHOPS IN SPANISH
That commitment has translated into meaningful impact. Through Hispanic Initiatives, we have reached approximately 4,000 unique clients in 2026 to date, recorded nearly 30,000 client activities, and delivered 1,000 workshops in Spanish.
Stronger Together: The Power of Collaboration
One of the most important lessons we have learned through Hispanic Initiatives is that meaningful community impact does not happen alone.
Our ability to serve grows stronger when we collaborate with organizations, sponsors, financial institutions, consulates, and community leaders that share our vision and dedication to empowering the communities we collectively serve.
Our relationship with Mexican Consulates across the country is one example of what collaboration can make possible.
Through events and financial education initiatives, the Consulates provide opportunities to bring Operation HOPE’s resources directly into trusted community spaces, connecting individuals and families with financial education and coaching while strengthening relationships that can help us reach even more people.
Recently in Georgia, I had the privilege of representing Operation HOPE Hispanic Initiatives at a gathering of about 50 representatives from Mexican Consulates and allied organizations.
It was an opportunity to share Operation HOPE’s mission, highlight the work of Hispanic Initiatives, and discuss how culturally relevant financial education can help strengthen the communities we collectively serve.
But perhaps the most exciting part is what happens after the event.
Many of those conversations are already developing into broader strategic alliances and collaborative agreements, creating new opportunities to expand our reach and connect more individuals and families with Operation HOPE’s no-cost financial coaching, small business resources, and financial education.
This is what collaboration looks like: trusted organizations opening doors, partners investing in solutions, and people coming together around a common purpose.
When Empowerment Becomes Opportunity
Sometimes impact can be measured in thousands. Other times, it can be captured in one moment.
Recently, one of our bilingual coaches had the opportunity to mentor women entrepreneurs as they prepared for a business pitch competition. She shared her experience, helped them strengthen their presentations, and encouraged them to confidently communicate the value of their businesses.
Her mentees went on to earn first and second place in the competition.
That moment represents so much of what Hispanic Initiatives is about.
Financial empowerment is not simply providing information. It is helping someone recognize what is possible. It is providing knowledge, mentorship, encouragement, and access to resources — and sometimes being the person who reminds an entrepreneur that her idea, her business, and her dream deserve an opportunity to grow.
Beyond Celebrating Our Heritage: Building Our Future
Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration of where we come from — our cultures, our traditions, our resilience, and the generations whose sacrifices created opportunities for those who came after them.
But I believe it is equally important to celebrate where we are going.
Our economic influence is growing. Our entrepreneurs are building businesses. Our families are becoming homeowners.
And our collective voice continues to become an increasingly important part of America’s economic future.
At Operation HOPE, we are proud to be part of that journey. Together, we can create a future in which financial opportunity is within reach for everyone.
