Ms. E. Brown began her HOPE journey in March 2023 with a credit score on the lower end of the 600s. She connected with Lester Watt, homeownership coach at HOPE Inside Memphis Cadence Bank, and they got to work. Ms. Brown had a heart and mind to pursue the bigger things in life — like her own home. But she knew that those big dreams came with big price tags. As a financially literate person, she knew that qualifying for a mortgage was one thing, but getting a good rate was another. Ms. Brown set her heart on getting into a home that she loved, at a price she could afford, with a rate that wouldn’t keep her in restrictive debt.

After completing the work plan,  her score rose an impressive 50+ points in just a few months. Not only did her credit score rise, she was approved for a $150k mortgage loan and is currently enjoying the summer in her own home. Here’s her story in her own words:

“Three months ago, my credit score wasn’t in a position to purchase anything at a rate that wouldn’t keep me in debt.  Being referred to Operation HOPE  and registering to attend their workshops gave me the knowledge to put myself in a better position with major purchases, such as a home, car, etc., in the near future.

Applying the knowledge from the workshops increased my credit score by 50+  points within three months.  By applying the techniques taught by coach Lester Watt who taught those workshops, was very patient, professional, and knowledgeable on everything, he could answer any of my questions with examples and clear understanding. I was impressed with his extensive background and knowledge in banking!

I recommend this program for the person who is proactive and motivated in learning to understand the importance of Credit & Money Management and its importance when purchasing a house.  It worked for me!
